Things we are doing in the Wabasha Minnesota area, Oct 4, 2013

We have been busy here at The River Nest the past 3 weeks.  There are many activities in Wabasha and its annual SeptOctober Fest.  This Fest runs from the last weekend in 149September to the last weekend in October.  See the Wabasha Chamber web page for info (www.wabashamn.org).  The National Eagle Center(www.nationaleaglecenter.org) has special programs each weekend, and the “Woodshed” and “Grandpas Barn” are very popular (many crafts and oak furniture and goodies for sale).  The Reads Landing Brew Pub even has a special micro-brew Bob 153brewed just for SeptOctober Fest.  This present weekend and next weekend we are booked full.  The weekend of the 19th and 26th we still have openings.  I posted a picture on facebook (www.facebook.com/therivernestbedandbreakfast) showing the leaf color change % around the state.  We are only at 25% or less now, so the next 2 weekends and possibly the next 3 should be spectacular.

International Weekend

This past weekend has been international weekend.  We had one couple from Manitoba, Canada, and our other couple were one from Russia, and one from Milwaukee ( sort of foreign).   The young lady from Russia was celebrating her 25th birthday, and the couple from Manitoba were celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary.  Always so interesting to visit with our guests, and a special treat when they are from different parts of the world.

If you are interested in booking in October for the leaf colors, don’t delay too long.  Usually the peak time is about the middle of October so the weekend of the 11th or the 18th should be perfect this year.  Hope  to see you.                     (It is apple pie season!)

What you should expect at a bed and breakfast in the fall season in Minnesota

QuicheThe River Nest B&B (meaning owners Carol and Bill) have been busy in our gardens as fall approaches.  The fall raspberries are just starting to ripen, and they are bigger and sweeter than the summer ones for some reason.  The Dutches apple trees gave us some great applesauce and the Harleson are just starting to ripen.  The Welthy did not do much this year.  You will love Bill’s applesauce pancakes, with his own twist of a treat.  So expect some fresh applesauce and fresh apple crisp and maybe even fresh apple pie on your visit.

The garden is yielding numerous tomatoes, peppers, onions and broccoli.  All will be used in your breakfast in some manner.  We are pretty much organic.  I am not real high on organic per se, as I think there is much cheating and many of the organic places I have seen are not impressive at all.  However, people seem to think it is better.  Our small plot can be organic without much problem, so please enjoy your organic produce at The River Nest B&B.  Carol has perfected sugar free, gluten free, meat free and even dairy free breakfasts as needed—hopefully not all at one breakfast though.

Start making plans to book for October and the leaf colors.  We are beginning to fill up.

Eagles on the Mississippi river visit the best bed and breakfast in Minnesota

We hosted two wonderful couples from northeast Iowa Wednesday and Thursday night. We always encourage guests to go to the National Eagle Center.  They went on Thursday, and very much enjoyed the eagles and exhibits and especially Karlin’s presentation.  Then to top things off, we had this visitor Friday morning.

Activities our guests enjoy while staying at our bed and breakfast in the Wabasha Area

We had interesting guests this past weekend.  One couple was doing a “babymoon”.  It is getting to be a common happening sort of like a honeymoon, but it is the last romantic getaway before baby comes.  They went to the National Eagle Center, Lark Toys, Slipperys and Reads Landing Brew Pub. She had a massage, and they went on a Lake Pepin cruise, enjoyed live music at The Eagle Nest Coffee House,  AND 2 romantic nights at The River Nest B&B using the jacuzzi and enjoying 2 fabulous 4 course breakfasts. The second couple came on 2 motor cycles and besides enjoying the Terrace suite at The River Nest B&B, they took in the National Eagle Center, did some kayaking in the Mississippi backwaters near Alma WI, dined at Reads Landing Brew Pub and the Flower Mill Pizzeria.  They also did some cycle cruising of the area enjoying the river, bluffs, and terrific scenery.   We all had interesting visits at breakfast.  Bill even rolled with a few “cow doctor stories”.

Bed and Breakfast in Wabasha pays attention to details

At The River Nest B&B we are not only the best B&B for eagle watching in SE Mn, we pay attention to detail.  We do this so our guests are pleased and can enjoy a clean and comfortable setting for bird watching and relaxing and “breakfasting”.  I was not cognizant of just how well my wife and partner Carol “detailed” until she shared

We have been blessed with good weather this summer.  Our perenials are quite happy and are looking good.  July was quite busy at The River Nest, and August is pretty well booked up also (on weekends).  We have plenty of openings for the fall color season yet.  Don’t put it off until the last minute.
